Limerick Choral Festival
ABOUT
The Limerick Choral Festival Society aims:
(a) to continue the organisation of a Choral Festival to be held in the Springtime each year
(b) to promote the development of choral music with special emphasis on the realm of church / sacred music in the city, wider region and throughout the country.
The Society is committed to fostering mutually beneficial links with other like-minded agencies and bodies, especially church choirs and music groups throughout Limerick City and County, along with:
• RTÉ Lyric fm
• The Irish Church Music Association
• Sing Ireland (formerly Association of Irish Choirs)
• The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick
• National Centre for Liturgy
• and the appropriate Commission of the Bishops’ Conference
It is intended that the annual Limerick Choral Festival shall not be confined to a mere set of choral competitions, but will be committed to welcoming non-competing choirs to participate. Other festival activities will include the involvement of both composers and organists “in residence”, a major choral liturgy over the weekend, and a nightly festival club to a provide an appropriate opportunity for a get-together between local and visiting choirs.
The activities of the Society shall not be confined to the organisation of an annual Festival, but will also be pro-active throughout the year in fulfilling its aims and objectives, especially with the provision of on-going facilities by way of workshops and masterclasses on a regular basis.
Membership of the Society automatically commits everyone involved to the adherence of best practices at both festival level, and also within their own local environment of church/choral music.
